Now the festival isn't much to write home about. In fact, the highlight of the festival--strawberries--are from California! Can you believe that? Vendors had lots of greasy food on hand, as well as strawberries offered six different ways, from a la mode to ice cream topped with whipped cream to shortcakes to whatever you heart desires.
We didn't bring the right shoes to hike, but maybe next time we'll spend the day hiking the trails in Sky Meadow State Park. The area is undeveloped and basically pristine. So pristine, in fact, that the park offers monthly star gazing nights. Amateur astronomers, guided by an astronomer from the Smithsonian, bring their telescopes to show attendees celestial sights.
This is what I'll miss about living on the East Coast. I feel like my heart is still in Virginia at times, and hopefully one day I'll come back and make my home in the gentle Virginia hills. Once a Virginian, always a Virginian.
