Every December, the Mormon Temple in Kensington, MD puts on a HUGE light display celebrating Christmas.
George and I have always been curious about the Mormon Temple in Kensington. Built of white marble, the Temple stands 16 stories tall. You can see going south on I-495, and I always think it looks like a white Emerald City from the Wizard of Oz.

We had a date with our neighbors downstairs, and since we love to do outdoor things during Christmas, we decided to take them to the Mormon Temple Festival of Lights. Now I know for many, this is not the grandest idea. But for us, it was a real treat on an otherwise chilly December night.

The grounds (over 20 acres) in front of the Mormon Temple are decorated with 450,000 mult-colored lights. Can you even imagine how much the electric bill is?

The Visitors Center is a nice place to warm up. The Mormons showcase several Christmas trees and hand out pamphlets on their religion. We didn't feel that we were being rude when we said no thanks, but it was a little odd knowing that all the nicely dressed people were there to talk us into converting, should we have chosen to bring up the Church with them.

Although rather ostenstatious, the Festival of Lights made for a lovely evening out. We would definitely go back and show friends and family.
