Donde Es La Lavenderia?

I sometimes wonder if I had never gone to Peru, if I'd still be happy in my little cubicle, happily tip tap typing for The Man. But somewhere paragliding over the cliffs of Lima, or listening to the rain pour down in the middle of the Amazon, or watching the fog lift over Machu Picchu, everything changed.

Donde Es La Lavenderia?

On suggestion from the guidebook, we stayed in Miraflores, a less dangerous but still lively area of town. By lively, I mean there were cheesy clubs with waitresses dressed as hooters girls from the 80's and drunk teenagers hanging out in the park.

On the plus side, I did get this ridiculous flaming drink at one of the cheesy clubs. I bought it because of its name. Unfortunately, I found out later that "Amor en LLamas" does not actually translate to "In Love with Llamas".

JP and I spent the day trying to find a laundry to wash the Amazon off our clothes. It took forever, as the first three laundries we found were closed on Sundays. The one we finally found was full of Peruvian mamas who immediately started helping us with our laundry and chastizing us in Spanish for overloading and throwing the darks in with the whites. Yah, I don't speak Spanish, but some things are universal.

OK, so I admit to being a compulsive hair cutter. I get bored and change my hair. Which is what happened our second day in Lima when I wandered by a sign that advertised haircuts for $4. I ended up with a MULLET WITH WINGS before I had him just chop it all off in shame. The moral of this story is don't get your hair cut at a dirt cheap salon by a dude that you can't communicate with.
