An evening in Barcelona

Barcelona Travel Blog › entry 1 of 2 › view all entries

I had to attend a conference in Barcelona and had very little time to explore this wonderful city. Here a some few snapshots and what I managed in these two days.

An evening in Barcelona

Fira Barcelona

We arrived late in the afternoon - hurried to the hotel and had a late lunch and a cold beer in the sun. Coming from rain and 15 degrees to a sunny 25 degrees Barcelona puts a smile on your face right away. We hurried to the conference and followed the last sessions that day. After a short meeting later in the evening in the hotel we went in to the inner city for some food and a couple of hours of relaxation.

We checked out at the hotel for a nice restaurant in the city - they recommended Salamaca. It turned out to be a great place, more about that later. Barcelona is a real womans town, meaning that the women are strong and indepented. On our way to the restaurant we had a girl driving us - man she had power and she loved her work no doubt about it.

Cleaning up La Rampla
She told storys, she rolled down the window and commented the police and all the time with a smile on her lips. When she heard that we were going to Salamanca she quickly made sure that we had a table reserved - what a gall. By the way Barcelona was playing - and she was a fan also - the radio was on full power and she was really in to the game.

After the fantastic dinner we went for a beer at Plaza Real - a place I just love to come back to. To sit here a warm fall evening and look at the action, listening to the voices the music from a girl playing guitar and singing - nothing beats that.

Later when we went for a taxi down the Rampla - like everybody else - they were cleaning it and the people riding the trucks were young women - this is a womens town - great - to me it was just another signal who is in power in this down.

Restaurante Salamanca in Barcelona
We asked at the reception at the hotel which place that would be a good place to go - they recommended Restaurante Salamanca.

We took a taxi out there and asked the female driver if she knew the place. She did and she could only said good things about it. She asked if we had reserved a table - we had not. Her reaction was somewhat surpricing but in a good way. She called the central to have them to do it - two minutes later they called back - Everything was ok. What a fantastic service!!

The restaurant was a cosy place in Spanish style and with an enornous amount of pictures on the walls - all of them with a guy with a moustache as one of them. We guess right - he was the owner: Silvestre Sánchez Sierra.

We had a fantastice dinner with all kind of tapas and a gigantic seafood plate with everything you could wish for, this together with some cava and excellent white wine made this a very pleasant evening.

It was definitely a place I will come back to. The service was nice and friendly; giving us the best service. They made it a great evening.

Restige Congress Hotel Barcelona
The Hotel Prestige Congress innovated a new concept where the same spot, your room, can be transformed into a space for work, relaxation, fun and to dinner.

The decoration of the 160 rooms reflects a style of a very own personality: a fashionable and functional design for a maximum of flexibility and transformability where everything can be seen and that allows you to change your room referring to your own momentary preferences and needs (work, relaxation, leisure, restaurant)

It was a great conference hotel and it was very close to the expo I attended. The hotel room I stayed was friendly and light even though there was a large amount of dark wood in the decoration. I remember my first thought when I entered was; wow this is different. The bed was great and the bathroom as well.

The room had a good free internet access and there was everything that one could need from a conference hotel. The restaurant in the hotel was also good and the bar was good too. I can still taste the cold beer on the terrace.
