The drive along Route 17 towards Beaufort. How I love Spanish moss!
George and I drove from DC to Columbia, SC this morning for a wedding. We weren't sure we'd actually make it in time, but we arrived a few minutes before the wedding started. We stayed to have some tasty South Carolina barbecue, which was my first foray into the world of mustard barbecue sauce. I was hooked!

Later in the afternoon we started our drive to Savannah, taking a detour to Beaufort. The company I work for is renovating the Beaufort Hospital, so I wanted to stop by and taking photos. We drove into the town of Beaufort, which was sleepy and beautiful, much like what you hear the old Southern coastal towns to be.

Although we didn't have time to walk around much and look at the historic homes, we did walk around the park along the Beaufort River and took a ton of pics of the scenery.
Route 17 and its marsh land
It was so peaceful and serene, we could have easily stayed for several hours if we didn't have to drive to Savannah.

In fact, we were so excited to be driving around such a scenic locale, I wanted to take lazy Route 17 instead of hectic I-95. While exiting from 95 onto 17, I saw a flashing lights in the rearview mirror. A cop pulled me over for speeding, and he was like, "Didn't you see the sign?"

I wanted to see exactly where this sign was, so after signing the ticket, we looped back around and saw what seemed like a little sign announcing the slower speed. We figured it was a speed trap.

Anyway, point is, beware of the cops! I had always heard cops in both North and South Carolina love to ticket, and it's true!
