Sozopol.
September 4, 2007
I 've dreamed about and planned this journey for 6 months. To be honest, I didn't know if everything will be OK, if everything's going well. But yes! I nervous waited for 3rd september... In a period between day when I decided and made a reservation and the beginning of september I managed to write my matura exam, be informed about the results, work in a publishing house, pass my driving licence, be informed that from the 1st October
I'll start journalistic studies at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, go to Prague and officially become
a vegetarian girl.
So, Sozopol, Bulgaria. I didn't know what I should to expect. I decided not to think too much about it and just go and see. After 24-hour travel from Kraków to Sozopol (across Slovakia, Hungary and Serbia to Bulgaria), at 9 a. m. we were in a right place. First impression: like combination of Greece and Italy. But really? After 1st day
everything changed. Bulgaria has her own culture, tradition and climate. Any comparison to other country is not right. Because... she is different! There are so nice, so easygoing people, sometimes loud. There are also kebap-salesmen, who could only talk with you, nothing else. At the old part of Sozopol you can find magic little houses, made by stone and wood, amazing quiet and... it is completely different world. Wonderful. Moreover, I loved Bulgarian food. Especially tarator, traditional cold soup made from cucumbers, Bulgarian yoghurt with water, herbs and walnuts. Delicious! And palacinky (a kind of pancakes), Shopska Salad, Shepard's Salad, Bulgarian cheese (every kind is very salty), omelettes, seafood, fish, corncobs sells on the street... Of course tons of melons, the best I've ever eaten, watermelons, figs, grapes from the garden, big red tomatoes... It is a taste fo Bulgaria. Icredible. If I add that we had 5 min way to Black Sea from our house, 10 min way to
Old Town, generally sunny weather, if it can be something more beautiful? :)
