Prague 2007
After contemplating going to visit Prague for a while I finally did so in March of this year. I went for five days not really knowing what to expect but was told that building after building were amazing to look at and there were two things I had to see, The Charles Bridge and the clock on the Old Town Hall Tower in the Old Town Square.
On arrival at the Airport I purchased a 'Prague Passport' in the departure lounge. I was recommended by a friend to get one of these. It gives you discounts to many attractions and you get a three-day ticket for transport travel on the tube, trams and buses - not bad! I can't remember how much it was but it seemed pretty cheap and a very good deal. I was also given a gift when I purchased the Prague Passport, I got a box containing 2 posters and 2 postcards. Not a bad start really what with the weather being great as well.
Now without a transfer arranged I had to make my way to Prague City. I got on a bus that took me to the end of one of the tube lines and worked it out from there. It helps to have a guide or speak to someone who has been before like I did or I may have got very lost! Once I got off at my stop I went searching for my hotel, which I (eventually) found. I looked like a right proper tourist stopping every 10 minutes to get out this huge map to work out where I was going! On the way I stumbled across the Staropramen lager factory. I just had to take a picture of it, as Staropramen is a very nice lager indeed.
During my stay in Prague I visited some great sites. Wenceslas Square is very busy and is great for restaurants, pubs and for generally chilling out in. In the square there are two old trams that have been joined and converted into a pub, I just had to go in for a pint! At one end of the square there is a Museum and at the other a huge clothes store called the New Yorker, I got a nice sweatshirt from there :-)
The Charles Bridge is also a site to behold. Situated on the beautiful River Vltava it is has two rows of fabulous statues and I saw some great entertainment including bands and a puppet that could play the guitar! The atmosphere on this bridge was great and everyone on it seemed really happy and jovial.
The Old Town Square is another must see place. There is the Clock Tower on the corner of the square which has a very impressive clock indeed. People were gathered around the tower and I wasn't sure why. When I got back home a friend of mine who had been to Prague said they must have been waiting for the bird to pop out when the clock chimed. I missed it :-( It must have been good if all those people were waiting to see it. If anyone has seen this bird, please tell me what I've missed!
At night the main sites of Prague are lit up and they look brilliant. If you like clubbing head to the Karlovy Lazne situated at the Old Town end of the Charles Bridge. It is a great club and is five stories high! Each floor has a different genre of music and it is open until around 4 o’ clock in the morning.
In five days I was able see and do quite a lot in Prague but like most cities I guess there is so much more see and do. It looks like I may have to go back someday :-)
