with the firefighters in Soho
Ok, I have already been in Manhattan but this time I wanted to visit other neighborhoods and another of the NYC’s boroughs. I had a buddy who wanted to join me and we would discover the Big Apple :)
Last night I was out and was hoping I could get up early next morning. Happily one of the guys in the room made a bit of noise and woke me up. He was so embarrassed. I told him not to worry, in fact I said thank you.
Matt and me had breakfast and took the Metro in order to go to SoHo. I loved this trendy neighborhood. You can find designer clothes, stylish bars and lounges. We kept on walking and arrived to Chinatown.
Wow! It was really something! In Lima we have a Chinatown, well it’s more a Chinastreet, hahaha. Here the streets were so vibrant, with a lot of restaurants, fishmongers and markets where you can see hanging cooked ducks, pigs, etc. There are a lot of shops and they try to sell to you everything. You can find there not only souvenirs, but also watches, handbags, sunglasses, etc.
Little Italy. You feel as if you were in Italy :)
Just a couple of blocks away was the Little Italy ;) There were lined restaurant after restaurant. It felt as we were in Italy. Almost everybody spoke Italian and they looked like Italian too.
We kept on walking and arrived to the Lower East Side, a quiet neighborhood – well during the day. At night it’s a different story.
In order to start the adventure in another of the NYC boroughs, we took the subway over the Manhattan Bridge in order to go to Brooklyn!
We started walking around the DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass).
This are has a different vibe with industrial loft buildings, art scene and contemporary restaurants.
conquering the Brooklyn Bridge...
We stopped at the Brooklyn Bridge Park. I wanted to see that backdrop I had seen so many times in the movies. And I did :)
A minutes away, there were the historic Brooklyn Heights. The Promenade was really nice, with all the panoramic waterside views.
There was the Brooklyn Bridge and I wanted to cross it. We decided to back to Manhattan, by crossing the bridge. I noticed it was a long way to walk, but didn’t realize how long until we were walking. We have been taking pictures of each other and wanted to have one of ourselves together. So I saw a friendly guy and asked if he could take a picture of us.
He did it and we kept on walking. It was a long distance, but the view of the city was great.
a NYPD member at night ;)
Finally we arrived to Manhattan and were really tired. We went back to the hostel. I wanted to use the computer and check my emails, but someone was already using it. Who was that person? Andre, the guy of the bridge, hahaha. The funniest thing was that he was the guy who waked me up that morning, hahaha. It was unbelievable, what a small world.
Matt had to go in order to attend to the music festival. I went upstairs and met my new roommate. A guy from Korea. It was still early and I wanted to go to Times Square at night. I convinced Kuon and he joined me. He was making fun about my NYPD T-shirt, hahaha.
We went to Times Square, all the lights were amazing! We decided to go to the Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum. It was a lot of fun! It was perfect going there not alone, so we could take pictures of each other.
Then we went back to the hostel, met Andre and went out and had something to eat. It has been a long day and I needed to rest in order to be ready for the next day :)
