My daughter had bought her first brand new car, so we decided to break it in with a road trip to Colorado Springs. We had heard of Garden of the Gods from so many people and only live an hour away, yet after six years in Colorado had yet to make the trip.
It was a perfect spring day...a little cool, sunny and perfect!
We arrived at Garden of the Gods in the early afternoon and discovered we weren't the only ones enjoying such a great day after such a rough winter. I was nervous since I had been on crutches most of the winter after a knee injury and it was still weak and tender. The trails are well marked and many are paved to make for very easy access to everything.
Being me, I decided to get in shape for my South America trip I needed to get off the easy paths and hit trails.
We noticed lots of rock climbers out for their first good climb of the year! It seemed to be the place to practice and lots of beginners being coached.
The rock formations, as you can see by the photos, are so unique and beautiful. Almost like a sandstone and very colorful.
There were quite a few people around, but I enjoyed just wandering about with my daughter, taking pictures and enjoying time with each other.
After a few hours of walking around, my knee began to wear out, so off to a quick lunch in the Springs, then home.
It was a perfect first road trip for her new car and a perfect first hike for me to start prepping for my trip.
Life is good.
