Welcome to Toledo!..
June 22, 2005
Some pictures of this beautiful place that i had the chance to enjoy several times.
It´s located 70 km south Madrid, so is easily reached from there by train in 30 minutes.
The old city is situated on a mountaintop and is surrounded on curve way by Tajo/Tagus river which flows through the city.
Toledo is distinguised for it extensive and awesome cultural and monumental heritage: you can admire places like the Alcazar, the cathedral, the Zocodover plaza, sinagogues like El Transito, mosques like Cristo de la Luz or churchs, specially Santo Tomé, where is exhibited the famous painting "El entierro del Conde de Orgaz / The Burial of the Count of Orgaz" by El Greco, who spent in Toledo the last part of his life.
Another quality that converted Toledo in a special city was it religious tolerance, becoming a place where the coexistence of Christian, Moorish and Jewish cultures was possible during a long historic period known as "La Convivencia".
I really love this place basically due to a pair of reasons: it irradiates history everywhere and transmits peace and calm!
This manner, enjoying a walk through it narrow streets full of details, surrounding the city following the bottom of the river or just tasting it delicious & famous marzipans (pasty candy made of crushed almonds and sugar :)) are things that it never get tired of doing to me!!

Not just a youth hostel....
The Castle of San Servando is located on a mound in front of the Alcantara Bridge which provides wonderful views of the city of Toledo.
This castle built in 14th century of Mudejar style, was rebuilt above the ruins of an Arabic castle and is currently a youth hostel.
The castle has a pool and two sports courts, garden and benches.
Undoubtedly the best of this accommodation are the rooms, especially the bathroom that is overly large.
As for meals we can not complain: good quality and sufficient quantity.
Besides, the treatment of all staff of the Castle has been correct and efficient every time I've enjoyed this place.
In short, with a high quality-price relation, San Servando is a totally recommended accommodation from where begin to enjoy the city of Toledo.
