Why did I climb the tallest mountain in Africa?
Mt. Kilimanjaro - the tallest free standing mountain on earth. The highest mountain in Africa - 19,341 ft. / 5,895 meters. Even after I started the climb, I didn't know why I was doing it. I thought about it a lot. Why was I spending $1,250 and 7 days of my trip to climb a mountain. I hate hiking. I'm not an 'outdoorsey' guy. Why was I doing this? I could be on some beach in Zanzibar or somewhere more enjoyable in Africa.
I thought about it more and more. And, it never came to me. Not until it was over.
And when it was over, it became CLEAR.
This climb represented life. You see, there were good times and bad - easy and hard - exhilarating and lazy - enjoyable and painful, beautiful and barren. Sometimes it was easy. Sometimes difficult. There were times I felt good and times I was sick. There were realized expectations and many surprises. Every day I continued on - up up up - forward forward forward - to Uhuru Peak, the summit. And suddenly it was over. Just like life.
Suddenly I was looking back at the past 7 days and everything I had been through. Suddenly I realized why I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. It was about the journey - NOT the destination.
