Terracotta Army

............after arriving on a 13 hour bus from Beijing - what to do!  I know lets head out to the Terracotta warriors.  What does a country with 1.25 billion people look like on a public holiday at one of the biggest tourist destinations in China!  It was kind of busy - but the Terracotta army was awesome.

Really liked my hostel in Xi'an which is always important - free pool, table tennis and beer 20.30 - 22.00 - now that is my kind of hostel - met some cool people also - wondered round the city and cycled along the wall of the old city (this was one of the ancient capitals of China).

From there flew up to Chengdu to sort my Tibet Visa out.

Enjoying some tea
Arrived on Friday and was hoping to fly out on Monday - but couldn't catch train to Tibet until Wednesday.  What to do.  Met a really nice Candian and we decided to trot off to climb one of the fout holy buddist mountains in China - 3000m.  We set out early Sunday morning - pretty impressive after his birthday Saturday and England vs Oz.  Arrived and we were looking to make it half way up the mountain on the Sunday but it was raining.  Went to a temple built up into the jungle instead.  It is the most beautiful temple I have ever been too - we sat and drank Chinese tea for a couple of hours.  After that strain went to the most luxorious hot springs in China till 1am.  Again another early start the next day and all the way (bar the last 500m cable car) up to the summit for sunrise the next day - not that the sun particularly rose.

Have just been talking to a couple of Chinese students about University in China.

Get up - study 08.30 - 12.00

Lunch - 12.00 14.00

Study 14.00 - 17.30

Dinner 17.30 - 19.00

Additional Study 19.00 - 20.30

This is before work assignments.  And CURFEW during the week - and share room with 7 other girls (guess that bit wouldn't be the end of the world)!  Just as well I didn't study in China!

Off to see giant pandas tomorrow and prepare for 45 hour train into Tibet.....
