The Citadel was an awesome hostel. I tend to judge these places more on the atmosphere they have socially rather than the usefulness of the facilities, but this place had it going on in both categories. The only downside was the odd showers, but even that was hot water 24hours. By far not the worst hostel shower I've taken. The place was very clean, and very friendly. Kitchen was very well equiped and well placed near the roof, so that was the best place to eat. The other guests were traditional backpacker types, mostly europeans, with very very few americans, and a few Aussies etc. Every evening people gather on the roof to watch the sunset, drink and smoke ciagrettes and hear the call to prayer. The view is perfect for talking about what you did that day because you can see everything in the old city which is worth talking about. On Yom kippur you could see the rabbi on the temple mound blowing the trumpet to remind people to prepare for the Shabbat of Shabbats.
All together an amazing place. I would stay there again and hope to again soon.
