Pagudpud - Northern Paradise

Pagudpud is a coastal beach town on the northernmost tip of the island of Luzon.  My main destination for today's trip is the secluded
 beach called Blue Lagoon.

I arrived at the town center of Pagudpud after a two-hour relaxing bus ride from Laoag City. I was dropped off right at the tricycle station area where there was no other obvious choice of transportation to Blue Lagoon Beach but the tricycle.(Philippine equivalent of tuktuk or becak) The tricycle rates were set at a tariff of P600 but I tried to nego for P500, using my Ilocano speaking knowledge. Ilocano is the local dialect in the provinces of the Ilocos Region in northern Philippines.

THE BLUE LAGOON, PAGUDPOD
It is totally different from Tagalog, the national dialect.

I was hoping not to get disappointed with what I was about to see at the beach after traveling for miles to the northernmost tip of the Philippine archipelago. I have been to the best secluded beaches in southern Philippines and after those trips, all other beaches I've been to in the northern provinces of the Philippines and in some parts of southeast Asia where beyond compare. But I've heard so much about the pristine beaches of Ilocos Norte and that made me take interest in Pagudpud. As the tricycle was moving uphill, the view all around completely changed into the refreshing scenery of the blue sky, verdant green Cordillera mountains, with the crisp mountain air all around brushing against my face.

After a slightly steep climb, the road descended and we turned left to a secondary concrete road leading downwards to the beach. From the elevated road before the descent, I could already see the  mountain surrounded cove with a lucid view of the South China Sea! I was awed with the enchanting combination of the natural green mountain color and the blue ocean and sky.  I've reached northern paradise! And I wasn't disappointed.

Along the coast, I spotted the Bantay-Abot(Mountain with a Hole) Cave. Low rock formations scatter around the cave and a few distance away are more rock formations where the waves are continuously splashing during the low tide. I went down near the cave and climbed onto those rocks to take some photos. I could hear the waves pounding on the rocks but aside from that, everything was dead calm.

I didn't see any tourists or locals around. The place was secluded.

Upon reaching the beach area, I was looking for any resort facilities but there was none. There were some small open huts for picnics near the parking area. Apart from that, you cannot find any lodges or guest houses. Camping seems to be the best alternative accommodation if anybody wants to stay overnight. The sand quality is not white powdery. It's sort of white grainy. And the sea is like a huge blue crystal clear swimming pool. The beach is almost bare - no commerce, no funfare, pure nature.  And  I would love this place to stay just the way it is- unspoiled. Being on the northeastern side, the sun does not set on the horizons of Blue Lagoon. The sun sets on the west at the back of the mountains. There are no golden sunsets on this beach, only glorious sunrise in Paradise!

Hi Jeroen! Yeah I think from Claveria you can go on a day tour to Pagudpud. The main attractions would be Patapat Viaduct, Pasaleng Bay, Kabigan falls, Blue Lagoon,& Saud Beach. I didn't go to Patapat but people told me the view is spectacular in that coastal area. Am going back to Pagudpud one of these days and finally do the crossing over from Ilocos region to cagayan Region via Patapat. Have fun! I'll be keepin an eye on the photos that you will post soon! :)
