Chicago - Passion Conference

We left the falls on Thursday and have come to Chicago, the windy city. It certainly lived up to its name so far, in that our flight was delayed multiple times due to strong winds and storms in the area. There are tornados in several parts of the US at the moment too. The flight was bumpy (Jill nearly lost her lunch) but we're here now and looking forward to the Passion Conference which starts tomorrow (that's the Christian worship ministry called Passion, not some sort of marriage enrichment course).
... And now that the conference is over - we can say that it was great. Louie Giglio spoke and we found his talks inspiring. John Piper also shared a message via DVD link which was cool as well.
The volunteers at Passion were so friendly - it really made us realise how important the welcomers are at events or church etc. We met lots of interesting people. On the Friday night we tried walking back to our hotel from the conference. After some meandering around the deserted streets we realised we were lost and trudged back to the conference venue, where we found 3 college girls who were stranded waiting for a lift that hadn't come. We ended up sharing a cab with them back to our hotel and chatting in the lobby until the early hours of the morning waiting for their ride to arrive.
On Sunday we spent the afternoon in downtown Chicago. We didn't have long but we did get a taste for the city, and it was definitely a palatable one. The architecture is amazing and it was a city that seemed to have a bit of everything - great lake, great theatres, great park, great restaurants etc. We managed to catch the last quarter of an NFL game on screen in a sports bar. It was Chicago vs Philadelphia and Chicago scored the winning touchdown with 9 seconds to go. As you can imagine the hometown fans went crazy, and the atmosphere in the bar was electric! We also tried Chicago pizza which is bizarre - the cheese is on the bottom and the sauce on the top.
