On Saturday we went to Kuirau park which was just next to our campsite. It was a park with loads of natural volcanic activity, it had a crater lake, boiling mud, mineral baths and lots of steam. it was brilliant especially as it was free to get in! As we were staying close to town we decided to go out as we hadnt been out properly since Auckland. We found that most of the places were really quiet and most people were watching the netball on tv. We did however come across a few bars with live bands which were so much better than live bands at home. After a few drinks we went to a bar recommended by some locals and ended up bumping into our friends from the other campsite, such a small world.

In order to cure our hangovers we went to the Polynesian Spa on Sunday morning. There were several thermal pools, some alkaline and others acidic, ranging between 39-42 degrees, so relaxing. It was like having a really warm bath but some of them did smell a bit. In the afternoon we were supposed to be going for a short stroll which ended up in a 3 hour hike up a mountain, well at least it helped us sleep as the next day we had our skydive....
