What an eventful first day with our campervan, we were picked up over an hour and half late and our Jucy Crib (google it on the internet, its so funny!) didnt have a DVD player like it is supposed to! The drive up was kind of beautiful but it was a biut hard to see as it was raining so much. On a positive note it was very easy to navigate as we drove onthe same road all the way. We stopped off in a city called Whangerei and managed to get ourselves a portable DVD player. Once arriving in Pahia, we found somewhere to park overnight (or so we thought!). After having some food and a few drinks we went to bed, only to be woken up about an hour later by security - we werent supposed to be parked there. As we had been drinking we were allowed to stay the night, but it wasnt that relaxing as I kept thinking they would wake us up early in the morning to move us on but they didnt.
On Tuesday we caught a speedboat to Russell, we didnt realise at the time we were actually going on that we were just lucky i guess. As it had briefly stopped raining we made the most of our trip looking around the town, eating the most delicious pies and climbing to the flagpole (even though we couldnt see it as it was having reconstruction work done). There were naturally several photographic opportunities for Russell- standing next to any sign we found with Russell on! The afternoon was spent driving to a place called Ahipara in the North as we wanted to visit Cape Reinga. We decided to stay in a caravan site after the disaster the night before and as it was raining. We got talking to some English people, who happened to be doing the same trip as ours around New Zealand which was nice.
