Comon Hemingway, I'll drink ya under the table... bronze or no bronze, ya canneee outdrink the scottish. Er... Rab... he can't hear ya!
Now we can get down to some serious traveling (and drinking). We set out by deciding that we were going to just stay in the same hotel as we had just stayed in. In fact, we stayed in the same hotel every night we were there but every morning we would wake up and decide that so every morning we had to tell the reception that we wanted to stay that extra night. When we eventually did check out at the end of the trip I don't think they believed us. Anyway back to the first day of exploring.
First things first, we went to the local airport office to enquire about Rabs bags. After a few queues and conversations in half spanish half english, we still had no clue about anything. We had a number to call though!
So anyway, we went downtown to the city centre and checked out a few museums including the history yoke museum about cuban history Castro style.
Two literary geniuses....
And a Statue!
.. we got a few photos of that. Not sure what I make of Castro. I don't agree with the state of the country in one sense and yet he's doing a couple of things very right (eg. health service) and although I don't like what's happening, I do like that he stood up to the international bullying. I'm also kinda surprised Che became such an icon considering the actual history I learned about him. I guess even when they hate and bully each other.. one things for sure. Most countries rulers are a bunch of nutballs.
So, then we went onto Bodegita de medio for a mojito and we ended up back at hemingways for a trusted daquiri! Wow. Absolutely gorgeous. We also got attempted hustled into buying loads of dodgy cigars but we had better plans to visit the factory later on in the trip.
Hola Guapo... tu vas tener un futuro fantastico con mucho dinero y muchas guapas y mucha felicita!! Pero talves tu vas mortir muy pronto. No Seguro!
Also some voodoo witch lady offered to read my future. She told me it all in Spanish and even though my Spanish is ok, I got very little of it. I tried to pretend I knew what she was talking about but I didn't really. I think she said I was going to be very happy, successful and lcuky in love. Of course she could have said I was going to get run over and killed by a big red van!!!
After a bite to eat we spent the rest of the evening having a few beers in the hotel as ya do! Had a great laugh. Very interesting place, Cuba. Meself and Rab had a long chat about the state of affairs in Cuba and the whole concept of Communism as well as Socialism.
