Stokkur, Lil Geysir and Eden
September 22, 2007
Making our way to this location from Gulfoss didn't take very long... either that or I fell asleep again. Anyways, this place was gorgeous... so was the rest, but it was actually warm here so M and I got to enjoy it a lot more.
First you walk around some smaller hot springs. They are gorgeous to look at. There were 2 that were side by side and one was glowing this beautiful crystal blue and the other was radiating this carribean green color. The blue one felt the same as your own body temperature, but the green one was much warmer. It looked surreal, leaving you breathless. There are some things in life that leave you speechless, there are no words that can describe certain beauties. This is one of those occasions when you just stare in awe.
After being captivated by that for a while, we wandered around to see a few more hot springs, none as gorgeous as the ones I previously described. We made our way to lil Geysir which M found it cute for me to stand next to and have my picture taken. I'm sure if it said troll he'd laugh his head off and then ask me to stand next to that too. lol Anyways, finally we hop skipped and jumped over to Stokkur. This was the big daddy of the geysirs. This sucker erupted every couple of minutes, so we were excited to watch it blow. M and I captured the first eruption. M captured the second one with me behind it (M has the pic) and I got the last one with M jumping. It was rather funny because we were giddy to begin with. Again, the rest of our group made their way to the bus, but M and I saw this giant viking statue next to the Hotel across the street, so we ran off and took pictures with it. Then we saw a horse driven wagon, and again, we took stupid pictures and ran to the bus. We got some pretty ugly looks when we jumped in, but we were laughing too hard to care.
Last stop of the day was a store called Eden. Another gift shop the tour guys probably get high fives for bringing the tourists by. Most of the people just wandered around and took toilet breaks, some snapped pictures of all the goodies but didn't spend $100 on beanies like M did :-) and others bought ice cream. By the time M got up to the line everyone was back on the bus once again. I wandered off taking a few cute pictures... one I recognized Paolo (a fellow travbuddy) took. So I did too. The bus guide found me and called me back to the bus. I'm sure they did the head count by this time. I hollered at Michael and ran to the bus. Near the exit I ran passed the bus guide who had come to get me, he was gambling on a machine. I decided to have a laugh so I ran back and gave him a hard time. He shhhh'd me and laughed. I think this was the second time I had heard an Icelandic man genuinely laugh. He pointed out the door and said get on the bus. Just then Michael runs into me, hands me an ice cream and we again laugh our way onto the bus. The bus guide soon followed and pointed at me and laughed. Everyone else was annoyed, but again... M and I just didn't care! From there we were dropped off at our hotel. Surprisingly, we were second to be dropped off. Guess they got sick of the giggly goofs in the back of the bus. I joyfully thanked the bus driver and guide and waved goodbye to all the others who were annoyed with us and back in the hotel we went.
