Get us back quick!!
September 24, 2007
On we drove. And on and on. I was determined to get us back at a decent time. We stopped at a gas station, I don't know where at this point, but there was a restaurant attached to it. So another bathroom break. At least I know we were hydrated well. Oh, and I have to add, Erik made some home made crackers that were delicious!! I was impressed!!
Ok, back to our little stop. We wandered in the restaurant after our pee break and we decided to grab some warm food. Okay, let me go back on the description of this place. It was more of a cafe with a store attached too. Anyways, James got chicken, Erik got some sweet pastry and M got soup, I think. I asked for these fish cakes and Michael brings me back a platter of 4 fish cakes, vegetables and um. .. I thought there was something else. I'm going to have to ask him. Anyways, Michael promised me a nice dinner when we got back into town so I didn't want to spoil my appetite, but I was pretty hungry so I ate enough to keep me awake. I was getting drowsy.
Moving on. We had another great conversation there about pancakes for breakfast, in America, but pancakes are eaten for lunch in Sweden. M and James agree that it's only once a year that they have that in England. I thought that was insane. I have to admit that when I got home from holiday, the first morning I made some cinnamon pancakes and they tasted great!! ;-) So yes, we talked about different types of food we all grew up with. I could have spent all day talking with these guys. They are really nice and very sweet. If you ever see James or Erik hitch hiking on the side of the road in Icleand, PICK THEM UP!! They are the biggest sweethearts in Iceland!
Moving on. After the quick meal we hauled buns back to Reykjavik. Back tracking and staying on the right path. I didn't play chicken as much because the winds began to pick up again and I was feeling pretty lethargic. Around 8 or so we managed to make it back to town. We drop James and Erik off near their dorms and M and I headed back to our hotel. What a day. I kept thinking how in the world am I going to be able to stay up all night, fly back to London first thing in the morning and fly back to Los Angeles at noon for an 11 hour flight!! UGH!
