Get on the bus!!!
September 22, 2007
Ok, so off we went, back on the bus to take us to the excursion place again. Guess we had to switch buses. So we did, and since M and I were late, we held everyone else up again... ooopss! haha Sorry, I thought it was funny. After a 2 hour bus ride (I'm not sure it was that long, but it seemed like it), and a nice little nap, we arrive at Gulfoss. Oh wait, just kidding, we stopped off at a stable. Not sure which one, but we stopped for like 5 minutes. Whoo hoo! But I have to add that as we drove away a man took a hard fall off a horse. He landed right on his back. He didn't get up for a couple of minutes and when he finally got to his feet, he fell face first into the ground. We were already at a distance and another man ran towards him.
It was a sad sight, I couldn't turn back. After that, I wasn't looking forward to going horseback riding with Michael.
Oh yeah, we also stopped for like 15 minutes at Þingvellir National Park. It was absolutely freezing there. It didn't help that my hair was wet. Ok, so again we had maybe 15 minutes at this place. Þingvellir is translated to "Parlaiment plains". It is a place in the southwest of Iceland near the peninsula of Reykjanes and the Hengill volcanic area. Also known as a large lava field, situated right on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where the European and North American plates are moving apart. This location has a lot of history, I'd get into it, but I tend to bore myself, so if you want to know then google it :-)
Anyways, with only a short period there and being practically blown away, we quickly ran back to the bus where it was a lot warmer and definately dry... it began to sprinkle when we went to the look out.
I also have to add, that when you go here with the tours, they don't really give you much of a history lesson. They just take you and you have to educate yourself on your own. But with 3 degree weather, most of us were focused on taking pictures and running back to the bus. This time M and I were right on time!
