Koh Lanta
November 11, 2007
The next stop was Koh Lanta, an island just south of Phi Phi. Originally we were planning on staying here for 2 nights, before heading to Phuket, but after hearing disgraceful reports of Phuket, being compared to blackpool on heat...we decided to avoid this prositute paradise...resulting in us becoming marooned in Koh Lanta for 20 nights!!
We stayed with the Kokyai family, at Lanta Garden Home, on the Khlong Dao beach...a huge stretch of powder white sand, with sea deep enough to swim in, but warm enought to bath in at 28 degrees!! We soon found that this place was impossible to leave!! The family were so lovely, with the mum doing the cooking, the dad wandering around mumbling about how thai women look like elephants (??!!), 4 sisters running the guest house and brothers/husbands and cousins running Bomp Bar.
We spent a considerable amount of time doing the 100m round trip from bungalow to beach to bar, and then back to the bungalow, which made us so horizontal, getting up before 12 was a crime. In the true sense of 'mucking in' I was roped into going to the pier with Mat (Bomp Bar Bartender and Cocktail Extrordinaire) in order to tout unsuspecting tourists, fresh off the boat...and take them back to the guest house.
As we were here SO LONG, I managed to organise Lauras Birthday Bash, in Bomp Bar. This included Live DJ Mat, Buckets for 150 BHT, Birthday Cake and free shots of tequila for 10 minutes (BAD IDEA...3 in a row and I was curled up in a hammock for the night). The night was a success....probably due to the 300 flyers that were distributed on the beach....but the time to leave had arrived, we were embarking on the 19 hour journey to the east coast...where the full moon party awaited............
