Gullfoss from the distance.
  • The "Plan": like the rest of my Iceland trip, everything was planned on the spot. The only thing I had "planned" was the lodging. So after 2 nights in Reykjavik, I had to go to Husavik because I had paid for a night at the Fosshotel. So here's the plan: wake up early, eat the complimentary breakfast, go to Gullfoss/Geysir (this time for real) and then come back all the way to Reykjavik (about ~4 hours drive round trip) to start driving north towards Husavik (~7.5 hours). A loooong day was ahead of me...

  • Gullfoss: since I had driven almost all the way to Gullfoss the 1st day, I knew the road pretty well.
My favorite pic! It is me standing on the rocks at Gullfoss...
The morning was beautiful, especially after stuffing myself with 2 sandwiches from the hotel (I made them with triple layer of ham and cheese, plus some egg and smjor/butter). So I drove fast, non-stop and pretty confident after getting used to the wind and the scary roads. When I finally arrived, I think there was only one car in the parking area of Gullfoss. You could hear and feel the energy of the waterfalls  from the distance. And of course, the WIND was no joke. I loved it though. It was a sunny morning, nice weather, lots of green all over the place, the clean waterfalls and no one around. It felt like it was just the earth and me... and the wind ;P I walked as far as it was possible to where the river ends and falls through the black rocks. I took tons of pics, my favorite is myself posing at the "edge" of the falls, on wet black rocks with the wind pushing me. I put my camera on a rock and ran to strike a pose and pretend I was relfecting about my life ;)
