The hardest goodbye
December 9, 2007
We packed our bags and checked out of the room. Gaby moved into a single room for the night and I left my pack in her room whilst we went out to eat breakfast and do some shopping - toothpaste, water and freshly baked wholemeal buns from the vegan restaurant. I bought my ticket for the bus to Kuala Lumpur - a 25 to 26 hour journey.
At 5pm we met-up with Maria and went to Starbucks for a coffee and a chat. At 6pm it was time to go. I left Maria at Khao San Centre with a hug - I’ll see her again in Melbourne in a few months time - and Gaby & I walked to the pick-up point where we had to wait a Southeast Asian ten minutes for the bus to arrive. Otherwise known as one hour!
The bus arrived and I put my pack into the storage compartment. A hug, another hug, a few words, a smile, a wave and I boarded.
It was horrible, "Like a divorce."
