Tuk-tuk racing and Elvis Presley!

After spending the day suffering with jet lag - it really drains me in the afternoon - I went to Gullivers to watch the England vs. Australia match and to have something to eat.

When the game was over I walked over to Shamrocks and started chatting to John (he's either from Leeds or Kent?), who I was talking to the night before, Jackie & Sarah (from Dublin), an extremely drunk Irish chap who I think was called Scott and Nathan (from Cornwall: "We don't want Ping-Pong Show, Sex Show or any fucking show. Thank you!")

Scott (if that is his name?), suggested a trip to Patpong to see a Thai Evlis Presley cover act, which was too good an offer to resist. So the six of us piled into two tuk-tuks - and the race began! Racing across Bangkok shouting and screaming at eachother, whilst the drivers swerved, screeched and jumped their way through the night traffic. Our driver took a short-cut which meant that we eventually won - w00t!

When we arrived in Patpong, we made our way through the night market fending off offers of "Super Pussy's!" and "Pussy Collection!" - apparently Patpong is the 'sex district' of Bangkok - and got a table right at the front of the Elvis Bar, where we were joined by Judith and Esther from the Netherlands.

The Thai Elvis Presley came out complete with quivering quiff and white sequined jumpsuit and proceeded to murder some Elvis classics for an hour. The backing band, however, make it worthwhile. A definite must see!

We left after another round of drinks and before the Tom Jones act started, and headed back to Khao San Road by tuk-tuk: 3 in one and 5 in the other. How we manage to all fit in I don't know. However, the driver said that his 'record' was nine people in a tuk-tuk. NINE PEOPLE!?! It's all on Judith's video camera, and was definitely an, er, experience!

Safely back at Khao San Road, and after the driver had tried to double the fare as a "tip" we said goodnight to Esther and Judith and went back to Shamrocks for a few more beers and to watch the band, whose lead singer looks like Iggy Pop - if Iggy Pop was Thai.

A great night out and definitely worth the trip. It's just a shame that I forgot my camera!
