Khao San Road
October 4, 2007
Flicking through my 'Rough Guide' - I'm not cutting loose just yet! - at Watergate, I decided on D&D Inn as my first choice for accomodation in Banglamphu.
After a short, but busy, taxi ride to Khao San Road, my taxi driver dropped me off with a 'free' carton of cold water right outside D&D. What are the chances, eh? Following my bit of good fortune, I booked myself a room for the night. After dropping off my backpack in my room (air-conned again!) I went down to the Restaurant 'I Love Seafood' and bought a dish of Pud Thai noodles with beef. My first taste of Thai cooking and it was delicious and cheap at 70 baht.
With my stomach full I headed out into the bustling Khao San Road - a relatively short road packed with stalls selling all sorts: t-shirts, jeans, shorts, dodgy CD's & DVD's, pirated computer software, fake degrees & driving licences, food, drink, jewellery, bars & clubs, travel agents. Tuk-tuk drivers everywhere asking you where you want to go, music thumping out of bars and CD sellers stalls and the air full of the pungent smells of the food stalls.
After browsing the stalls for a few hours and eating a 10 baht bag of watermelon, I headed back to my room and crashed out watching the news where I soon fell asleep - bloody jetlag!
When I woke up I consulted my 'Rough Guide' to plan for tomorrow and decided upon walking to the Grand Palace for a look at the various temples and hopefully the Emerald Buddha.
