The abandoned Hotel King Edward, it may soon be reborn to its former glory.
For this leg of the trip back to Chicago, Amtrak made me a deal for a sleeper room. Normally, I do not purchase the extra accommodations while on the train, but the offer was for $50.00, and this included my meals. It was nice to be able to stretch out and relax without all the noise from the coach cars. Now I'm hooked. I will definitely book a sleeper room for the long legs of my train trips.

We left New Orleans on time and headed North through Mississippi. We stopped in Jackson for awhile and  I noticed this large abandoned hotel near the station. It's called the Hotel King Edward, and in its heyday, it was more beautiful than the Peabody Hotel in Memphis. One of the train conductors told me that New Orleans Saints running back Deuce McAllister was trying to buy and restore the hotel. By turning it into condos and hotel rooms it would definitely benefit the city. I wish him luck, it sure is (or was) a magnificent building.

Back on the train and on to Memphis, TN.
