Mirka after the sand storm
It was SO hot yesterday after watch read 107 degrees. It's really hard to work on the wall in this heat...we are all slower than earlier in the week. It didn't even cool off when the sun set! I slept in a tank top with my sleeping bag unzipped. In the middle of the night, I woke up to a sand storm! It was a rough exfoliating treatment while trying to sleep. The sand got in my eyes, nose, ears and mouth and it was quite uncomfortable. Sometime early in the morning storm, our kitchen tent got knocked down and the plates, pots, etc. came crashing down... We kept going with our morning as if nothing happened, eating sandy oatmeal and heading out to build. It was the hardest build day for me. It was again, very, very hot, and with minimal sleep, I had no energy.
Mirka and I the morning of the sand storm
it was still very windy and sand and dust was blowing all eyes constantly burned.

While working, I noticed a wounded horse with a huge open, festering wound on his spine. I asked the owner if he wanted the antibiotic cream from my first aid kit for the horse, and he said yes. He allowed Lizbit and I to clean the wound, remove the dead skin, and apply an antiseptic. We then instructed him to follow up by cleaning again the next day, and applying the antiobiotic ointment.... It wasn't much, but it was something. Animals are treated very differently here than at home, and farmers need to spend their money on themselves to live. Animals are not taken care of as well as I'd like...

How do you build with such little sleep? A lot of sandy coffee? That's so compassionate of you to take care of the horse like that. I hope it healed!
