Piazza San Pietro

It might be the smallest country, but it’s full of art!

I wanted to see as much as possible; therefore I woke up early and left the hostel really really early. I might have been in a hurry, but didn't forget not to wear shorts and wear some kind of sleeves, so I'd be able to go into the churches. I took the bus and arrived to Vatican City at 7:10am wow! Piazza San Pietro was empty, just for me, hahaha

I went into the Basel without doing any line and stood next to the Pieta, cool! There were several services performing at same time, in different languages, including Spanish of course . I was just looking at one of the statues and a man approached to me.

inside St. Pietro's Basilica...
He worked in the Cathedral and asked me if I was thinking about climbing to the tower. Sure, that was my idea.  He said he would be back in 30min. Well, I kept on walking inside the cathedral admiring everything.

Suddenly he was back and asked me if I'd like to go up to the inner part of the dome. How cool! So, we took the elevator, which was just for workers jejeje. He even let me go into a part not open to the people he just opened the gate, hehehe.  The view from the top is amazing. You can see the whole church, which was getting full of people by this time.

But I wanted to get a view of the city. Well, it wasn't a problem, the elevator left me in the middle of the way, hahaha. I just had to climb some stairs. Awesome!!! The view of the city, beautiful Rome.  It’s just wonderful.

I was walking around, enjoying the breathtaking views and feeling so lucky for being there. My mom would have never fogave me, if I didn't get anything from Vatican City for her. There was a souvenir shop, but it was expensive. If you want to buy souvenirs, better go to Ottaviano Street. It’s full with gift shops, much more cheaper than here.

I went downstairs and before leaving St. Pietro I visited the catacombs underground. All the former Popes are buried there.

Of course I was in Vatican City and wanted to visit the Vatican Museums, specially Capella Sistina. The line was incredibly long!!!! There were also people selling their places in the line.

Stairs in Vatican Museums
Just being curious I asked how much did that cost. €35!!!! NO WAY.

I remember I read that if you can’t arrive really early to the Vatican Museums, you have to go around 1-2pm, when the lines are shorter. So, I decided to go to the Termini, book the train for the day after and get something to eat. I was back by 2pm and the line was short, hahaha. Also I could get even faster because I was just by my own.

It doesn’t matter how long you have to wait for it. The Vatican Museums are WONDERFUL!!! Seeing in front of me all the art I have seen in books and in internet is amazing! There are no words to describe it! The museum is huge, so picked up the rooms I wanted to visit the most. I wouldn't have enough time to visit all of it.

The Museum closed at 6:30pm, so it was time for me to go back to the hostel. While I was walking back I saw 3 girls who seemed to be lost. They had heavy backpacks, so I was sure they were backpackers. I started to talk to them and so funny, they were looking for my hostel, hahaha. So I became their guide and the 4 of us arrived to the hostel :)
