my train ticket

This city is very nice. Everything is well organized. They have a nice subway, but just walking around is so nice!

I arrived to the station at 3:50pm. My plan was staying in Belgium for a couple of days, but moving to different cities. Brussels would become my "head quarters". I checked the rates for leaving my big bag there and decided to do it. I just repacked some stuff in my smaller backpack and was ready to go. Letizia, the girl from the hostel in France, gave me the phone number of the hostel where she made my reservation. Before leaving, I made a phone call to them and asked for some directions. Then I took the metro and arrived to the stop they mentioned. Once thing that surprised me - in a really good way of course - was the kindness of all the people. If you were walking holding a map, it doesn’t matter if you were lost or not, they would approach to you and ask if you need any help. :)

An old lady tried to help me and gave me some directions, how sweet!

Despite her directions, I was still a bit lost.

But suddenly I found a sign from a hostel. I didn’t remember the name of the hostel, mmm. Nevermind, the place looked nice and was in the area, so I went inside. I asked the guy at the front desk about my reservation and he told me he didn’t have anyone with my name. Ooooops! But there was a bed available, so I took it! I went upstairs and left my stuff. The hostel is very nice. I really liked it. I remember its name: Van Gogh!

I went to the front desk again in order to ask for my key and I realized I was in another hostel! I didn’t arrive to the one, Letizia booked me, hahaha. Anyway I was about leaving the hostel when I heard someone said: "Bon jour!" It was a guy. I was a bit tired of listening French and just said him: "sorry, I don't speak French" and was about leaving when he told me he didnt speak French either, actually he was from California. "So, why did you speak to me in French?" Well he assumed I'd speak French since almost everyone in Brussels did so.

Saints Michel et Gudule.
"Ok, but I'm Peruvian, hahaha" He asked me if I'd like to have lunch, mmm. I wasn't hungry and wanted to see as much as possible of the city.  Anyway, we agreed to meet later. It would be easy to meet, we both were staying at the same hostel.

It was still early and I wanted to visit the city. Sure I wanted to go to the Grand Place, but in my way I decided just to walk instead of taking a bus, that’s the way of knowing a city. I saw really nice things. I was in the Ilot Sacre neighborhood, walked through Blvd. Anspach. Also visited the Saint Michel et Gudule Cathedral. Here it’s completely different as in Italy. I mean, they don’t care what clothes you are wearing if you want to go into a church ;)

I arrived to the Le Grand Place.

The Menneken Pis ;)
All the buildings are so beautiful! It was full of people all ages. Oh! I wanted to find a special guy: The Menneken Pis, hahaha. And I did it! A lot of people were looking for him too and wanted to get pictures whit this famous character. It was summer, so he wasn’t wearing clothes ;)

Time to go back to the hostel and get ready meet my new friend. I kept on enjoying this nice city. It’s so well organized and with friendly people :)

While I was doing my tour, Matt was doing some research about where we could go for a couple of drinks. Finally I met him around 8pm, as we agreed. We went out for a couple of beers. We found a nice bar, sat outside and started to chat.

hanging out :)
It wasn't too warm or too cool. Perfect weather. I was leaving Brussels next day at noon and wanted to walk around the city during the morning. Matt was staying one day more and asked me if he could join me the next morning. Cool! I was thinking: "tomorrow I won’t be alone, I’ll be able to be in the pictures" yeah!

Ok, it was time to go back to the hostel. Tomorrow would be a long day, first Brussels and then Brugge... Belgium adventure was getting started...
