Inside the Byodo-In Temple on Oahu is a nine-foot Lotus Buddha. It is the largest wooden Buddha carved in over 900 years and is covered in gold and lacquer. So serene and beautiful, I wanted to stay for hours just basking in the glow and serenity I felt.
This is dedicated to my lovely spiritually inclined friends -
Here are photos of the Byodo-In Temple in Oahu. It's a replica of a Buddhist temple built 900 years ago in Japan. The Koolau mountains are in the background.
I hope these photos can convey something of what I felt while I was there. I have never felt as serene as I did when I stepped on this ground. It was raining, but the air was sweet and clean. I felt this calmness, and I hope I can keep some of that feeling within me when I come home.
Right now I am reading "Live in a Better Way: Reflections on Truth, Love, and Happiness," which someone compiled from the Dalai Lama. It has reminded me that what I have considered important in the past few months, really isn't and that I haven't been as happy as I would like. I wanted to take this time in Hawaii to find out exactly what I am missing in my life. And really, I'm not missing anything. I am just not appreciating all that my life offers.
I think this quote is awe inspiring - To see what your past was like, look at your body today. To see what your future will be like, look at your mind today.
With much love,
