My view of NYC, close enough to almost go shopping...
I got everything done last night and only forgot one thing that I wanted to bring -- my Death Cab for Cutie t-shirt, to give me some cred with the college students, alas, I will be just another loser to them. I couldn't sleep last night, so it has made for a tiring day already, I haven't even left the states. Dad picked me up this morning and the airport was a breeze. My luggage was 12 pounds over weight, but that only cost 25 dollars, which seems like a small price to pay to not drag it through airports across 2 continents. I met with a few of the parents this morning, and they all seemed very excited -- I can ony imagine how hard it is to drop your kid off at the airport and not see them for 10 weeks. It was all smiles at the ticket counter, but the story changes at the gate. I heard some of the students on the phone with friends expressing their deep relief to not have to see their mom and dad for a couple of months. Something changed at the security checkpoint, I guess. The flight up was nice, we flew over the Chesapeake and over Philadelphia. Only a few minor problems so far, some turbulence when we landed, luggage not checked all the way though to Vienna for a few of the students, and one student still without a visa, we hope to have her with us by Friday. The next big hurtle is to get through customs and onto our flight to Vienna in 55 minutes, more about that tomorrow. See you on the other side of the pond.
