Got up at 8:15am and did a final bag, turfing a few shirts that had shrunk and smelt kinda mouldy...gross.
At 9:30am met up with the Irish and Aussie girls for brekkie which we had at 100% Natural on 5th Avenue. The place was pretty cool and had a waterfall decorated with loads of tropical fruits - pineapples, bananas etc. Breakfast was yummy but too expensive as usual. Wandered around for a bit then went back to the hotel to check out, where I met up with Sammy. He took me to get my bus ticket to the airport which was only 80 pesos (US$8). We were both sweating heaps cos the sun was sweltering down on us.
Met up with all but Terese at midday for a final lunch together which was rather rushed but nice, then said goodbye to everyone which was rather sad. Row and Sam are going to come visit me sometime this year which will be great.
Got to Cancun airport and boarded my flight without a hitch. To my delight I had 3 seats to myself so slept most of the 5hrs to LA.
Arrived in LA just before 8pm and high-tailed it across to Terminal 3 after proceeding through customs. Checking in for my Qantas flight was a total freaking nightmare. I waited in the first queue for over an hour just to get my ticket, and then rather than getting my 21kg bag taken, I then had to wait in another queue to have it checked in. I then had to wait in a 3rd line to pass through security which luckily was uneventful, just very very SLOW! For one of the busiest airports in the world, I was really really surprised by its total lack of efficiency.
By this time I didn't have long at all till my flight so I just changed over my pesos into US, bought some food and sat at my gate. Saw a friend from high school who was returning home from a trip to Europe, NY and LA with her Mum and sister so that was funny.
Flight was delayed 1hr and took 15hrs. Despite having checked yes to several questions about what I was bringing back into Australia, when I finally got to the security check after waiting 2hrs to collect my bag and wait in the customs line, I didn't get asked a single question or asked to open up my bags, so met Mum and Dad outside and headed home. It's good to be back!
