A day on the island, slightly off season
After getting off the ferry, we stopped first at inscription rock. It was this large slab of limestone that had some bird poo and a dead fish on it. Not real thrilling, I thought. Then I read what it was all about. There are pictures carved into this rock that date from 1200 to 1600 AD. Wow! Most of them have weathered completely away, but you still faintly make out some pictures. It was really an amazing thing to see.
From there it was time to eat. We ate at this neat place down by the lake. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name! If I remember it (or one of my family members helps me out) I'll post it. Our food was yummy but be prepared! They are truly on "island time". However, we didn't mind much; it was a beautiful day!
Next it was off to the glacial grooves.
The pictures pretty much say it all. What amazing geological formations! Even for someone who takes no interest in geology, they are really cool.
We peeked over at the beach which was beautiful compared to the rock beach on
We did some shopping and went through the museum. Cute little stop. The museum is in an old church.
Then, out to the winery. I was a bit disappointed to find out that they import their grape juice. One of my favorite wineries is on
We rode our bikes a bit more. We stopped at this restaurant/bar on the far west side that had a limited menu and less than impressive food. We just got snacks. It was a nice break to rest our "bike butts".
Overall, it was a VERY enjoyable day. I would gladly go back! :)
