KC Sculpture Park.
June 26, 2008
My parents had a meeting downtown that I drove them to so I decided instead of paying for parking I'd drive down to the Nelson with Beethoven and check out the Sculpture Park. The park is a 22 acre park that is in front of Nelson Atkins. It's also the largest collection of Henry Spencer Moore sculptures in the world. The park opened in 1989 and has over 30 sculptures. There's a ton of benches located around the walk way so you can rest easy and not worry about having to take a break. Another thing I noticed was they had a couple water fountains around the park which was really nice to put there.
Animals are allowed in the park but not in the museum & Beethoven had a blast running around. It is a city ordinance for your pet to be leashed so if take your pet with you, bring your leash! The other thing they offer is a audio tour which I wished I could have done. I'll go another time and get it. You go in the museum, sign one out and you can have your own private tour :)
We walked around and read all the markers of course Beethoven had to sniff everything out. At one point we were on the East side and the sprinklers were on, the wind was blowing the water back on us and Beethoven didn't want to walk through them at all. I finally got him to walk through it, he didn't get very wet but he hates the water. We sat down to take a break and the directory of photography came out to eat his lunch and sat with us. Of course Beethoven (the beggar) got him to feed him a few bites of bratwurst. It was definitely a fun day :)
