First days in Europe!

First off, I´ll apologize for not putting any pictures up. Once I can find an internet hookup for my computer instead of having to use an internet cafe, I´ll be sure to upload some (don´t worry, I´m taking plenty).
I´ll keep this short for now since I´m on the clock. We landed in Madrid at around 9:00 AM yesterday. After an hour long bus ride to the hotel, we dropped off our luggage and began a brief walking tour of the city. Our hotel is on Gran Via, which is the 5th Avenue of Madrid, so we are pretty central to the rest of the city. The first day we mostly saw landmarks from the older section of the city (Plaza Mayor, some palace I forgot the name of). We were left to explore the city for the remainder of the day, so myself, Allison, Andy, and Lauren sat down for lunch and explored a little more on our way back to the hotel.
This morning, we had our first lecture before we set off to visit the Prado. It´s hard to quantify so much after seeing one museum, but I was amazed at the body of work they had there. The main galleries featured Francisco Goya, Peter Paul Reubens, Hieronymous Bosch, and Diego Velasquez, among others. I could have easily spent 4 or 5 hours there, so it was tough having to pull myself away after just 2 hours. After a relaxing nap, we went out for dinner at Plaza Mayor, which was a wonderful setting for the meal. Tonight should be another fun night on the town, so I must leave to get ready. More and longer updates to come soon!
