Oslo, Vigeland Sculpture Park-Frogner Park, Norway

Oslo is the largest city in Norway. I was there in the year 2000. I always wanted to see the northern part of Europe and this is my chance because at that time I had a weekend off from work when I was in Germany. Thank you to the modern technology and credit card. I arranged everything instantly by internet without any hassle at all. Eventually at that time SAS airline having a promotion return ticket from Frankfurt and I grab that offer. The hotel I stayed is also discounted because my work has an alliance with the hotel organization. I always wanted to visit Norway, Denmark and Sweden.

Magazines and guide book always mentioned that this country is organized, clean and modern. Oslo proves that it is true when I was there.

I had read an article before about Gustav Vigeland a sculpture. His worked located at Frogner Park, famous area in Oslo where people go. The Vigeland Sculpture Park is part of it and a popular place of interest in Oslo. The park is very huge and it is not very far from the city centre. The sculpture Vigeland personally sculpted every single figure out of clay and individual craftsmen were contracted to fabricate the pieces into what they are today.

This area been divided into six sections: Main Gate, The Bridge, Children’s Playground, Fountain, Wheel of life and Monolith Plateau. Most of the statues you can see typical human pursuits such as hugging, running, wrestling, dancing, holding hands and so on. This park is well known as a picnic area. In summer are popular for sunbathing, games and relaxation. I really enjoyed my time here, walking around and taking photo and sit down on a grass when I am tired. I am very lucky the weather is very kind to me that day. This is my main attraction of coming to Oslo at that time because I had 2 days and a night only.

I arrived that night to my hotel feel very happy. I rest for awhile and then had a shower. Since I am not very tired, I go out to the area nearby my hotel called Stortingsgaten. If you want to experience nightlife, Oslo has a surprisingly large selection of restaurants, nightclubs and bars considering the population size.

I walk around the area and went to couple of bars to drink after my dinner. Since I did not know anybody, I just finish up my drink and walk away. The environment is very joyous and cheerful. Nevertheless it is a Saturday night and many people are on the street and having a nice time. I am not on party mood that night, I walk to my hotel slowly and decided to have an early night.

The next day, I just walk around the city. I go to Aker Brygge which is a nice port by the sea, Teaterkaffen is a popular meeting point in Oslo city, Kirkeristen and old market place. I wanted to see more of Oslo, place like the Royal palace, museums, theater, Old town and the Maritime museum but I have no time. I had my lunch that day in a restaurant in the Central station because it is not far from my hotel. I can see people passing by and even the people in the restaurant are friendly with me. I left that evening back to Frankfurt. I am happy that I went to Oslo and telling myself that I would like to spend more time the next time I come back to Oslo. Oslo is easy to get around in, and almost every Norwegian speaks English more or less fluently. On the plane back, I am smiling and felt that I do have a great time and experiencing the things I want to see and do. ;-p J
