The Palace at Palenque.

We're in Palenque now.  Saw the ruins today and waterfalls tomorrow.  Then a night bus to Cancun.  We decided to pay the extra $7 for the deluxe bus, as we heard the route is currently taking longer than the posted 12 hours.  Might as well be bored and motion sick in the lap of luxury.  I'll add more later when I can post the photos.

UPDATE

Here are some pics of the ruins at Palenque.  The height of the city was in the 600s, with King Pakal and his son Snake-Jaguar II.  The most impressive temples were built during their time or shortly after to house their tombs.  It's kind of sad for the next king, Agouti-Yellow Rodent, that they put this statement on a lot of informational plaques.  I'm sure he tried.

There were lots of howler monkeys making lots of noise, but we couldn't see them.  We weren't allowed to go back further into the jungle, even though there were paths.  I guess they knew the yellow 'prohibido' tape wouldn't stop us, because there were guys guarding the paths.

Overall, quite cool with the jungle setting.  A shocking lack of churro vendors at the entrance. Everyone just wanted us to buy these placemat things with maya scenes on them.
