Los Tercios waterfalls in Suchitoto
We are in Suchitoto, El Salvador, on the shores of Lago Suchitlan. The town is pretty quiet. Colonial style architecture, and lots of uneven cobblestones. We went down to the lake today and took a boat to a trail leading to the Los Tercios waterfall. The trail was quite minimal and muddy and uphill for the first 10 minutes or so. Then we came to a road and we weren't sure where to go. Thankfully, there was a house nearby with a guide all ready for us. 10 year old Sonia Raquel led us up the road to a house and then down a trampled grass path to the top of the falls. Then, she asked if we wanted to go a bajo (down) to the pool. Sure, why not? Well, a bajo was downhill over a bunch of mossy boulders. It was quite slippery and she kept having to stop and wait for us to scramble back and forth. Sonia Raquel was more at mountain goat pace. I felt old when she came to take my water bottle so I could get down.
The pools were nice and cool, and the hexagonal basalt rocks on the falls were awesome. Beau took some pictures with the small camera for the blog.
