The delicious choco croc!
So today we are leaving Switzerland and heading to Munich. I think that we could have probably enjoyed Switzerland alot more then we actually did. It was all rainy and cloudy the whole time we were there and we didn't get to see all the pretty mountains as well and in general, we just didn't really give it an effort. When looking back, we like to call Switzerland our, "Catching up on our Sleep" country. We got up rather early, left the hostel right away and headed to the train station. We had to take two trains to get to Munich, 1 to Zurich, and then from Zurich to Munich. We had about a hlf hour until our train left so we went to the grocery store and bought some food for the train, including our choco-croc cereal!! It's not really different than any chocolate typre cereal you can get in Canada but this stuff is called choco-croc so its much cooler, plus it has a picture of a cartoon crocodile on the front! The train we took to Zurich was a two level train and it was really new and clean and I wish we could have gotten to stay on that one all the way to Munich but oh well, the 2nd train wasn't so bad.
Our new BFF, Billy and Melissa!
So when we get to Munich it is POURING rain and I mean pouring!! Just coming down in buckets. The directions to our hostel said only 800m from the train station so we decided to walk in the rain. How far could 800m be really? Well when you have your heavy backpack and it's pouring rain, it's pretty dam far!!! We kept on being like it must be the next street, the next street. And it just so happend that as we were walking by the store, a huge tarp that was holding alot of water fell, and it fell right onto me. Into my pants, through my shoes and jacket and very uncool. So we get to the hostel and we get into our room. The first thing we do is change into our semi-dry pj's and hang up most of our small stuff to dry. We wanted to go out later so we put our jeans and our shoes in the dryer.
With our 1L beers
I don't think putting our shoes in the dryer was such a good idea, they haven't been quite the same since lol. Then we went and got some dinner at a McDonald's that was just down the street from our hostel. Then we went on the internet for quite some time, we booked our flight from Vienna to Athens as well as some of our hostels for Austria and Greece. We decided to splurge on this really nice hostel in Athens which ended up not being so nice but you'll have to read about that later on. We decided that we were going to go on a pub crawl that night. There was one that was only 3 euros if we got our hostel to stamp it so we thought that was a pretty sweet deal. When we went back to our room to lie down and nap for awhile our two roomies were there!! We were in a 6 bed dorm but there was only 4 of us.
Double fisting hehe
Anyways our two roomies were Billy and another Melissa. They are from Oklahoma in the states but Melissa lives in New York. We asked them if they wanted to come on the pub crawl with us and they said yes which was sweet. You know how you can meet someone and then you feel like you've known them forever and they instantly become best friends? Well this is how it is with Billy and Melissa. We ended up missing the pub crawl because we were just talking and talking and talking. We got to know so much about them and were laughing so much, it felt like we knew them for years! We're still really good friends with them know and keep in contact and hopefully will get to meet up with them sometime this summer! Anyways we decided to go to a bar called Kings and Queens that Melissa (not my melissa, melissak=my friend from home, melissap=ny melissa) heard played good music or something like that.
The pretzel lady!!
Anyways we got there and it was so dead inside we decided to leave and go to the HAUFBRAHAUS!! We had to take the metro to get there and we were kind of confused...we got melissap to try and talk to some police in german and it was really funny. Anyways we finally got there and we got a table next to some strangers. We all ordered the 1L jugs of beer except for Billy who had a 1/2L. They were only 6 euros for 1L so thats not too bad. Anyways we just talked more and laughed more and took lots of crazy pictures. We also stole coasters and the menu for souveniers hehe. The people beside us were two guys who were German Italians and then two girls. We kind of talked to them as best we could and we just drank with them and had fun. The haufbrahaus is soo sweet though.
Polished that one off good :)
Everyone is dressed up in authentic german clothing and girls come around selling big pretzels and there is a live band playing music and it's so fun!! we ended up hanging out with more people from our hostel because they recognized us from before so they came and drank with us. We were there past closing and they staff kicked us out haha. It was weird to be there when it's empty, its sooo huge and all the shelves are stacked with sooo many mugs!! after that we didn't want to go back to the hostel so me, billy, melissak, and melissap went to the first bar kings and queens that we were origionally gonna go to. it was still pretty dead but we were drunk so oh well. we got white russians drinks which ended up being alot of money but it was fun. melissa and melissa made a melissa fight club which is hard to explain (inside joke) but it was good times.
Shelves of beer glasses
we got back to the hostel lateish and we just went to bed. billy and melissap had to be up at like 5am for a train to amsterdam so that really sucked for them. we planned to meet up with them again in berlin and they left us a really nice note in the morning which was sweet. so all in all a pretty good first day in munich and we made some really good friends!
