that must have taken ages to paint!
Today we woke up early so we could go to Vatican city and get a head start on the huge line. I was still feeling horrible but “When in Rome” so we got up to go. We were going to go with the Texans but they were taking ages to get ready so we just said see ya later and headed out. Sadly Melissa was showing someone in the common room the paintings that she got for her mom and she left them in there by accident and when we got back later that day it turns out the hostel staff threw them out! Like what the heck?? They clean the hostel every day from 2-4 or something like that but honestly if you were to see three painting on the table you would put them aside and not throw them in the trash! So that was really unfortunate and Melissa was really upset! Stupid Rome Backpackers! So we took the metro and what not and we got in line to get into Vatican City.
It’s true what they say about the lines to get in. We waited 2 hours! 2 hours! But we passed the time by listening to more Dane Cook etc. When we were in the line we saw the saddest thing. Along the way there is tons of beggars etc asking for money but this one lady was missing half her head! It was so sad and gross and you couldn’t help but look at it. Like on the top of her head about half of her scalp was just missing and it was all pink and fleshy and I think it was her brain we could see?? Ah that vision will haunt me for years to come. Poor lady though. So we finally got in and we saw the signs pointing us in the right direction to the Sistine chapel. Honestly we saw about a million Sistine chapel signs and kept following them and following them and following them. We didn’t realise that you have to walk through a whole museum thing to get there and honestly it took us about an hour to finally get there.
that's pretty sweet
Looking back at this day it makes me kind of sad because it is something so cool that I would have loved to spend more time at but I was so sick and there were HUGE crowds and we were just getting pushed and shoved that I honestly didn’t even enjoy it. Even the Sistine chapel didn’t impress me that much. You were supposed to be silent in there but it was so loud and everyone was talking and what not and I got pushed by an old man who didn’t even say excuse me and I was just fed up and felt like crap. After we left there we went to St. Peter’s Basilica and square. That was pretty amazing and really huge. We stood in line again to get in there. We were going to walk up all the stairs to the top but I just did not have the energy and wouldn’t make it. Melissa went into the museum or right into the church I think and I went down below to the tombs which was really sweet.
apparently you're not allowed in if you only have 1 leg
Pope John Paul 2 was buried there and there were tons of letters people left and flowers. It was really sad. No pictures were allowed though. Met up with Melissa after that and we went back to the hostel. I think it was around 4pm or something and when we got there this is when we found out about the paintings. So I was really sick and could barely move and Melissa was really upset and we both didn’t want to do anything or talk to anyone and we went to bed. Yup, at 4pm lol.
