First time we really used our money belts lol
So yesterday we took the overnight train to Warsaw and we arrived around 8 in the morning. We wern't sure if our tickets that we bought in Amsterdam included the transfer from Warsaw to Krakow and our Eurrail passes don't work in Poland so we went up to the ticket counter to try and see if they could tell us if it was included. Holy language barrier batman. We had been to countries where english isn't the official language but we have atleast been able to get by or get our point across by using some generic terms but not here. No one could understand anything we were trying to say. We were just going from booth to booth going "English?" and have people shake their heads at us.
best ice cream you will ever taste!!
Finally some nice man saw that we were struggling and he could speak english and polish and he translated for us to the ticket lady and it turns out that our tickets did not include the transfer to Krakow so we then bought the tickets. We only had to wait about a half hour for our train so that wasn't too bad and after all the waiting we did yesterday, that seemed like a minute to us lol. We slept on the train from Warsaw to Krakow as it was still pretty early. When we got to the station in Krakow we had no idea how to get to our hostel from there and we were soo tired we did not want to try and translate so we just said screw it, lets take a taxi. We had the address written down and the driver could speak some english so it wasn't that bad. This was our first taxi we had taken with our big backpacks and we had learnt before we left to never put our stuff in the trunk incase they drive off with it and I think the driver thought we were crazy for not wanting to put our bags in the back but oh well.
Me and the giant head. I love how there is a lady in the head waiving out the eye hehe
The can driver was a crazy driver!!! It was pretty fun actually but man it was intense, he was swerving in and out of everything and sometimes went on the sidewalk and took turns really fast and it was crazy. Our hostel was in a apartment building almost it seemed like and we had to buzz them and then they would let us in, it was weird. The hostel was sooo laid back too. It was like 2pm in the afternoon and they were like yeah we haven't made the beds yet but it will be done by 6pm. And then you can stay past checkout time if you want you just have to let them know. Because we didn't have a bed or anything we decided to go walk around the town. We stopped at this ice cream place and got the best ice cream ever!! It was this vanilla/chocolate twist ice cream and it was sooo good!! Then we went and got some chicken kebabs which were also very delicious.
a mcdonalds walk-through!!!
When we got back to the hostel the guy had moved us to a different room upstairs which ended up being better then the one we were origionally supposed to be in. We had a little nap and then we got up and went to a little restaurant for dinner where we had spaghetti which was delicious. That night we decided not to go out as we hadn't really met anyone and we were pretty tired, especially Melissa seeing as she didn't sleep at all on the over night train. So we just kind of called it a night and went to bed. Oh yeah but before we went to bed we met two of our roomies, Tom who is a fellow Canadian and Daniella who I don't know where she was from. They were really nice and we chatted for a bit and then went to sleep.
