Lounging by the pool at far out
So today was our last day in Ios. We woke up very hung over. Well atleast I did haha. Went back to the room where Melissa, Stuart, and Chris were. Melissa had massive hickeys on her neck and it was sooo funny. We went to the patio for breakfast and got lots of food. This is where we were sitting with Jamie and he informed us of what happened the night before and the nutella filled crepes lol. We were leaving today to go to Santorini but our ferry wasn’t until the afternoon. We checked out and stored our bags and checked the internet. Then we headed to the town and got a bus and went to Far Out. We didn’t want to go in the water as we didn’t want to get all sandy and gross and then not be able to shower. So we just got a table and some lounge chairs and we sat by the pool at Far Out all day.
Haha we looked like such bums!
It was really nice to just chill out and then go swimming when we wanted to. We also got lunch at the cafeteria. Eventually we caught the bus back up to town and we collected our bags. Then someone from the hostel, can’t remember if it was Jamie or not, took a group of us down to the ferry port. I think we had to wait about half an hour until the boat came. We got some ice cream and just sat on the ground like bums with all our stuff. This time we were catching a fast ferry as well. It was awesome, we actually got to sit inside in the a/c on nice comfy chairs. Just wish this was the boat ride that was 10 hours and not half an hour lol. When we got to Santorini there was a guy with a big “Anna’s Youth Hostel” sign so we went over to him. There were already a couple people with him as well. We loaded our stuff on the top of the van and then he led us to a little cafe to sit and have a drink as we had to wait for another ferry to come in.

We met a couple but can’t remember their names and we shared 2 big bottles of water lol. Then eventually we were driven to the hostel. To get from the port to the top of the island we had to go up a whole bunch of winding hills. It was really freaky and our driver was crazy and passing all these big trucks and vans, on very windey roads did I mention!! Anyways so we got to the hostel and we checked into our room. We were in a 10 bed mixed dorm. It was pretty clean as well and there was a/c and it was only 7 euros a night!!! Definitely the cheapest hostel we stayed in. We could have a room in the basement for only 5 euros a night but there was no a/c and it was with the smelly bathrooms. We definitely splurged the extra 2 euros for a/c and non smelly lol. Then we went across the street where there was a little cafe/restaurant called Atlas where we got a discount for staying at Annas Youth Hostel and we had some dinner.

After that we walked to the “supermarket” and got some stuff and then just headed to the hostel. We were sitting outside the rooms where there was an outdoor patio just chilling and we met Stu and Nell. Two fellow Canadians from Ontario. They were with Brayden another Canadian from Winnipeg I believe and John from Poland. We decided to play some drinking games J So we walked down to the supermarket again and Melissa and I bought a massive bottle of rum or vodka or something and some mix and we started playing Kings.
Nell and Stu
I had a couple drinks but I was just not feeling the booze after coming from Ios so I just played but didn’t drink. I was a little tipsy but nothing serious haha. Melissa on the other hand, well...she was having a great time! She got soo wasted it was hilarious. And she had those massive hickeys that we kept bugging her about and her bad burn was starting to peel and it was just hilarious. She kept saying, “You know what sucks, when your eyelids peel!” Me, being the good friend that I am, decided to take advantage of this and take many embarrassing pictures of her lol. Then we decided to head to the beach where we could hit up some bars. We went to the, “Beach Bar” which is where everyone goes and we had a couple more drinks and danced and what not. Paper stuff kept falling from the ceiling at this place and it was really fun. At the bar we met Rob, another Canadian from Edmonton.
I took advantage of Melissa being completley wasted and took a whole bunch of embarassing pics HAHA
Melissa, Stu, and Nell also decided to dance up on the bar which was very entertaining lol. Then being the drunken idiots that everyone was we decided to go skinny dipping! It was after midnight and pitch black. It was me, Melissa, Stu, Nell, Brayden, Rob, John, and then we met some random aussies on the beach as well who we went with. Well I guess technically it wasn’t skinny dipping as we kept our underwear on. Well me and Melissa did, can’t really say for everyone else. The water was soo nice and cool and it was so much fun. Everyone was just laughing and splashing around and it was awesome. Don’t think we would have done this if we didn’t have any liquid courage in us though lol. After a while we got back to the beach where Melissa started to put on some of my articles of clothing. Once we got that settled we headed back to the bar.
Melissa, Brayden, Nell, Stu, and Paul
Lost my watch in all the sand so we had to keep taking pictures of the ground to light it up so I could look. Eventually found it which is good cause it’s the watch I’ve had for years and years. Once we went back to the bar we kind of lost track of each other and I ended up going back to the hostel with Brayden and Nell. Brayden wasn’t staying at the same place as us and I think it turns out as he told us later, that he never did make it back to his hostel or something was wrong with his keys, but he ended sleeping on a bench that night lol. Anyways turns out Nell and Stu were in the same room as us so Nell and I just crashed and Melissa and Stu eventually made it back that night.
Make sure to shower in the ocean!
For what you pay this is an amazing hostel. For only 7 euro a night you get a clean 8 bed dorm with air conditioning! If you are really on a budget you can pay 5 euro a night and stay in the 20 bed dorm in the basement near the toilets with no a/c...yes I recommend splurging the extra 2 euro a night! The only bad thing I have to say about this place is the washrooms...oh dear god! The toilets aren’t THAT bad I guess but they were pretty smelly and I think only 2 of them?? So the morning after a big night out when someone has been sick all over the seat...very uncool! The showers...looking back I wish I showered in the ocean! First of all they are covered in mildew on the roof and in the corners. Then there is no hook or anywhere to put your towel and clothes so we kind of attempted to hang them from the shower rail. There is no FAN so it gets really hot and steamy and it is impossible to dry yourself off. The floor...the hair that is clogged in the drain is just yulck, with a side of yulck! Not to mention what else was “floating” around in there. So if you shower for more than 5 minutes the water does not drain and whatever is in there floats around your ankles! Shower shoes are a MUST in this place. Well now that I have gone off on a little bit of a rant about the washrooms I guess I can get back to reviewing the hostel. The staff are all very nice and very helpful. You can book tours through them for the Volcano etc and rent a car through them as well. They have about 5 computers with internet that you have to pay for. I can’t remember how much but it’s not that bad. At the outside of the hostel there is a covered patio area where everyone hangs out and drinks at night and it’s a really good place to meet people. The hostel is located on Perissa beach and it’s just a short walk to the water. Right across the street there is a cafe that has really really good food and you get a 10% discount if you show your room key for Anna’s. Not to far away is some bars along the beach and down the road is a makeshift “supermarket” where you can buy whatever you need. The hostel is on the southern part of the island so away from Fira which is the centre of the island and very far away from Oia in the north. It’s fairly easy to get to the cities though by bus or by renting ATV’s and exploring the island (which I recommend you should do if you are in Santorini!). The hostel will pick you up and drop you off at the port which is pretty sweet. All in all I would stay here again because it’s really cheap and generally a fun place to be. If I do stay here again I’ll just make sure to shower in the ocean!
