The Ferry Building - one of my favorite places in SF - great restaurants and gourmet food shops.
Today was sort of our free day and my goal was to go to the Ferry Building (looove this place!) and get the grilled cheese sandwich at Hog Island Oyster Co. before flying back to LA. We got to the Ferry Building sort of early so we strolled about the nearby arts and crafts fair. Then we sampled tons of cheese at Cowgirl Creamery (so good and they ship cheese, so check them out!). Our cheese guy (we forgot to get his name) was super patient and helpful with us and we ended up buying the cheeses that go into the Hog Island Oyster grilled cheese sandwich, as well as a few others. We then walked around waiting for the restaurant to open – there's a great little caviar shop, asian tea shop, mushroom boutique, etc. Somehow we thought it was a good idea to have a "snack" before our lunch and we each bought a taco at Mijita – my carnitas taco on fresh corn tortillas was quite yummy, but $4 is sort of expensive for a taco.
After polishing that off, Hog Island Oyster Co. was open (yeah!) so we got seats at the bar with a view of the bay (and a full view of their kitchen and oyster shucking station). I did a review on citysearch last year but I'll say it again – they have the best grilled cheese sandwich ever! I'm craving it now as I'm writing this…the oysters and other seafood are also awesome but it's the grilled cheese that brings me back over and over again.
The little arts and crafts fair outside of the Ferry Building.
After lunch we walked over to the newish Westfields mall to check out their awesome food court and then onto Union Square. We then went into Virgin Megastore to buy silly old movies and then stopped for a cupcake snack at Citizen Cupcakes. The weather was amazing tank-top weather. Alas, the time came when we had to head for the airport. We took the Bart to where our luggage was stored (a first Bart ride for a friend) and then headed to the airport.
I was lucky enough to get invited to the Justin Timberlake concert at Staples Center in one of the suites – it was totally awesome! I had to rush from LAX to downtown when I landed but it was well worth it! J JT is a great performer/entertainer – fun songs, great dancing, choreography – just pure showmanship.
Kayne was a surprise guest and performed "Stronger" with JT … and then Timbaland also showed up (loooove him!).
Cowgirl creamery - having a delightful sample fest!
This was a super fun weekend but now I'm pooped!
