Rome if you want to....

Rome Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

This was the most significant journey i've undertaken. I cant even express just how overwhelming it was. I finally convinced my parents to come to Europe so that my mum could come with me to Italy to meet our relatives and retrace the footsteps of my grandparents. It was an epic, highly emotional journey full of fantastic food, beautifully warm-hearted people, a rich history and some amazing scenery.

Rome if you want to....

Spanish Steps

After landing in Vienna and spending a great week together my parents and I headed to Italy via a quick stop in Bratislava.

In Rome we managed to see all the major sites including:

Colosseum, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Roman Forum, Palatine, Vatican City. We saw the major plaza’s and walked through Villa Bourgese.

I highly recommend the Palatine and the Forum. It's absolutely overwhelming. The Colosseum wasnt actually that much to look at if you've seen all the movies etc but the stories you get from a tour are worth it.

I loved Trevi fountain and the area around it has some great Al fresco dining places.

It was great to see my mum speaking Italian and she was like a kid in a candy shop running around talking to everyone she could, telling them her story and just being friendly in general. We ate some awesome meals and got massively ripped off once buying gelati (see review).

In all, Rome was fantastic fun but I could definitely never live there.

Anyhow the whole reason we traveled to Italy was to get to Calabria… so lets move along…

That's very cool that you went to learn about your ancestors. I need to do that myself, I don't really know much about my Spanish heritage and my dad was not much of a talker :-/. I will need to go on a wonderful journey like this one :-)

If you are at the Spanish Steps, and feel like an ice cream. Under NO circumstances should you go to this place. We paid 9.80Euro for EACH gelati we had. That is, we paid 30E for 3 small gelatis.

It's the most expensice icecream i've ever had.

9Euro of that was just for the shit seats we had. My mum stood there arguing with them for 10 minutes but no one in the shop would even talk to us and all pretended to not know what they should actually cost. Meanwhile the gelati was melting and wasnt even that good. We had much better elsewhere in Rome and much much cheaper too....
