Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica: Our sea kayaks along the beach.

Today begins my week long sea kayak tour which begins at Tambor and goes along the coast towards the east.  I am being guided by Crytal Seas Tours on this 6 day tour.  We begin our kayaking after an orientation and briefing and head out.  This first part of the tour is the hardest as we are breaking out of the bay around a cape where the sea seem to be coming at us from two directions.  Pretty wild for the first day out, but fun nonetheless.  The week is great with great food and great people. We end up not being able to head out for two days from one of our campsites because of windy weather but that is OK because it is still a great spot.

The final night we spend at Cura Wildlife Reserve, which has camping spots and trails.  It is a great spot to base out of.  I could come back here and stay a few days, renting one of their kayaks and hiking the trails in the reserve.  They have a monkey recovery program which takes care of injured monkeys from the area.  In the mornings is feeding time and you can see and hear the monkeys coming from far and wide through the trees to the center to get their banana breakfast.  Just offshore there are islands (one of which has a small resort), which we do a day tour out to from the reserve.  The sea kayak trip offers some good snorkeling along the way, even the day we were marooned at our camp spot we found a calm enough spot to snorkel.  Fun times.
