Zarcero, Costa Rica: The beautiful church in Zarcero.
I took a tour from San Jose through a tour agency to go to the La Fortuna area for two days. Day one included a tour of the wagon wheel painting town Sarche, the steel church in Zarcero, arrival at Arenal volcano and then some time at the hot springs at Tabacan Resort. Day Two involved a tour of Cano Negro for most of the day and then returning to the Hot Springs at Tobacan Resort and then taking a bus back to San Jose.
The Highlights of Day one were the church in Zarcero which had some beautiful architecture and groovy shrubs out front.
Zarcero, Costa Rica: Outside the church in Zarcero.
We arrived at Arenal volcano in the afternoon and saw the volcano doing a little erupting. You could see rocks falling down the side of the mounain. The summit was wrapped in clouds so you could not see the complete eruption. They say that is typical though. There are not all that many clear days at Arenal. From there we went to the Tobacan Hot Springs Resort. It is a very nice place with nice grounds. Very clean and friendly. There are trails through the forest where the hot springs rush out of the ground in rivers of hot water. There are lots of spots to enjoy the hot springs along the river. There is also a hot springs pool and restuarant. After the dinner at the hot springs we went back to the volcano to see if we could see any erupting at night. That is the best time to see molten rock spewing from the volcano. Well the clouds were still there but we saw a few little rocks coming down. So from there we were dropped off at our hotels for the night. I was booked at the Montagne De Fuego Which is a very nice place. It sits right oposite the volcano and has nice cabins that face the volcano. I spent some time on my front porch watching molten rocks fall down the side of the mountain. Pretty good view from here.
