San Jose, Costa Rica: People watching in the park.

I arrived in Costa Rica as most do in the city of San Jose.  San Jose is the largest city in the country and is a busy place with lots of people, lots of buses and a sprawling city.  San Jose is a big dirty city with lots of noise but once you get a little used to it it is not all that bad.  If you know what you want to do in the city you can find the right location for where you want your Hotel.  I made my original reservation before I saw the city at the (mid priced) Balmoral Hotel which is on the main street and near the main Plazas where you can get used to the city and people watch.  It is pretty much a city center feel.  A clean enough hotel but not tops.  On my next trips to San Jose I found the (upper mid priced) Hotel Castillo, which is in a quiet neighborhood near the downtown area.  It has a very nice medium priced restaurant.

I arranged for a trip to the volcanic region of Arenal from here through a tourist agency.  There are plenty to chose from so it is easy to find a trip to one of the many attractions in Costa Rica.
