Kauai,Hawaii
Even as we landed I could tell this was a beautifull place. As it turned out Kauai was what I expected Hawaii should look like. First I will write about the 2006 trip and then talk about other things we did in 2007 that we missed before.
Our inital plan was to do our first trip to Hawaii on a cruise and after getting an idea of the different islands to return to the islands we liked best at a latter date. Since we knew our friends, Vern and Mimi who lived in Ketichan, Alaska had been going to Kauai for 20 years or so, I called them to ask what we should see when we were on Kauai. They suggested we come stay with them as they felt Kauai was the prettest island and had a lot of things to do. They had 12 weeks of a time share and offered us a couple of weeks in a small condo complex and all we had to do was pay $50 a day for Ocean front Condo--In addition to that they were going to be there at the same time we were coming.
Vern is one of my best friends fron Veterinary School and Mimi and Ann taught school in the same school so he and I could go to Vet school so they are also the best of friends. I think I considered for 10 seconds and said yes.We landed around 10:00 AM and Mimi picked us up at the airport as Vern had a meeting in Grand Junction, Co. He has been one of the many veterinarians who are respondsible for the health of the dogs at the Iditarad dog sled races in Alaska and they were having a meeting about the next years race and would return in three days.
Mimi took us back to the condos and we checked into our unit. Was small as she told us but great views and had everthing we needed.
Over the next three days I played golf at three different courses (Vern does not play and this let me get my golf fix while he was not there).
For my golfing buddies who may go to Kauai one day here are the three courses in my order of preference. Will also include some pictures
1.Poipu Bay Golf Course Poipu Golf Course --The grand Slam of golf has been held here for 3-4 years(not this year). Wide open course with beautifull views. Probably the easiest of the three which could explain why it was my favorate. Took the most pictures here
2. Princeville Golf course-Princeville Golf Course -By far the hardest course with greater elevation changes and tighter fairways plus longer.
Still enjoyed it very much and would play again. I believe it is ranked above the other two also. If not still ,it was once in top 100 courses in US3. Kauai Lagoons golf Club-Kiele course Kauai Lagoons Golf Course -Still a very top notch course and of course beautiful but not as interesting course as the first two--Glad I played it but would probably not go back. No pictues of this one
