Day One - On the Road Again .......
I don't recall exactly how many trips we have made with Randy and Janice. It doesn't matter. Every one of them have been wonderful and we were convinced that this trip would prove the same. After months of planning, we were on our way. Leaving our house in Mount Olive, Alabama, around 7 a.m., we were meeting up with R&J at the Tupelo, Mississippi, Cracker Barrel. Their home is in Starkville and this would be a good central meeting place. All four of us were excited about this trip because we had heard for years about the beauty of the red rock canyons in Utah. We were now going to see for ourselves.
Oklahoma City was our planned destination for today. We picked up I-40 in Memphis and the miles just clicked off, one by one, as we headed west. Severe flooding in Oklahoma City had been all over the news back home, so we weren't sure what to expect. But we were blessed with clear skies and mild temperatures. Maybe the rain was long gone. As far as we could tell, it was going to be a glorious day.
